Thanks again for this opportunity. Here are some thoughts and links regarding music.
In reviewing the materials and the approach to tell the story via objects made me realize the greater importance music will play. The music will help give the show its emotional underpinning.
Speaking to the music, I think the emotional statement of the music is more important than what sounds/instruments are used to create it. One of the things I do on every score is find a “unique sound” and themes that will elevate the story and bring out the subtext.
Since we’re so in front of this musically and there were no references, I picked out a lot of different kinds of music. That said, there’s a lot more! :) I think the playlist I created gives some ideas and hopefully the start of some dialog to hone in on what will serve the series best.
Aside from the playlist link below, I would also suggest you listen to my soundtrack for The Curve on my homepage (www.joelgoodman.com). I think this covers a range of emotions and sounds very modern.
It would be great to work thematically, to draw connections between and within some of the stories. In the playlist there’s an example of a tense driving track (Inner Struggle) and a determined, uplifting track (Rising Above and Succeeding) that use the same theme, each contrasting in their emotion but using the same musical motif.
I grew up with a deep respect and love for our country. The divisiveness that rules today is disheartening to me. It would be great to work on this series and, of course, to be working with you.
